DFA Records is an an independent record label that was started by Tim Goldsworthy, James Murphy and a benefactor known as T.B. Notable recent releases by the label include two compilations of remixes of tracks by LCD Soundsystem, The Rapture, Black Dice and Joy Division, among others. The original name was Death From Above Records, dating from Murphy's DJ nickname he had used since 1993, and a name which was deemed inappropriate for a New York City-based label after the September 11, 2001 attacks.
