The interactive website - Kong Studios

The Gorillaz official website is a true centrepiece of the project. Jamie Hewlett's intention was to create a true 'virutal space' online, not just an ordinary band website with discographies and biographies, etc. His team Zombie Flesh Eaters utilised the highly flexible Macromedia Flash and Shockwave web design programs to create a site based on a graphical interface. The sight that greetsa surfer upon accessing the site is a view of the Gorillaz studio, and this can be explored and various thing can be interacted with. In this way the visitor can explore Kong Studios and see where the Gorillaz live and record. It's a voyeuristic way of getting to know them a little better. A huge range of content has been available from the site including exclusive songs and demoes, games, quizes and interviews, all accessed by clicking on items that can be encountered on exploring the various rooms.

Old Kong Studios: (November 2000 - October 2002) the original Kong Studios. Was updated with changes from time to time to accomodate new content and new directions in the band. 2D notably decorated his room with Buddhist regalia when he got interested in the Free Tibet campaign in late summer 2001.

Portacabin / G.R.3.G.: (November 2002 - November 2004) visitors during this period did not see the Kong Studios lobby upon entering as usual, instead the graphical interface displayed a police Portacabin where various items could be accessed. This was to tie in with the story surrounding the release of the Gorillaz DVD. In early spring a new item was uploaded to the portacabin which allowed users to explore a cut-down 3D version of the Kong Studios site as a 'G.R.3.G. bomb disposal unit'.

New Kong Studios: (December 2004 - present) The new Kong Studios available from December 2004 had the same layout as the old one, but with completely new content, plus several new sections were added to the building. The site became even more interactive with the addition of an inventory function.
