Print Interviews

Despite the fact that the Gorillaz don't technically exist, they still give great copy. A huge variety of magazines could claim to have exclusive interviews with the Gorillaz in 2001-2002, which revealed the personalities, opinions and interests of the band members. These were done in one of two ways:-

(i)email interviews: this was the most common method. The interviewer would submit his or her questions to a gorillaz.com email address and they would receive responses by email, attributed to the band members. Answering questions like this was probably one of the duties of Zombie Flesh Eaters.

(ii)interviews with Damon and Jamie: on some occasions the interviewer was asked to imagine that band was present, and then the interviewer would in effect collaborate with Damon and Jamie writing questions and answers. This method worked very successfully for the first Gorillaz piece in the Dazed & Confused magazine, as well as in the first NME cover piece. Damon explained this approach to interviewers by saying 'the band is a collaboration between us and anyone who gets it'.
