In December 2004, the Gorillaz launched their own talent contest, with the aim of finding an artist to collaborate with. Visitors to the website could upload an entry through an upload interface and the best five each week were chosen to be put to the public vote. The entry with the most votes that week went through to the final, where a public vote would decide the winner.
