U Brown

Biography
U Brown started his career at the age of 13 in 1969 working for several small sound systems in Jamaica. He then progressed into being the resident DJ on the legendary King Tubbys Home Town Hi-Fi.In 1975, U Brown recorded his first album with Bunny "Striker" Lee, called "Satta Dread" and over the next couple of years U Brown recorded further more albums for Bunny - "Tribulation", "London Rock", "Revelation Time" and "Starsky & Hutch" as well as numerous 45s and unreleased tracks.From that time on he started producing his own material and other artists including two albums for his friend Al Campbell - "Mr. Music Man" and "Rainy Days". In 1978 he had his biggest hit in Jamaica, the single "Weather Balloon", and worked with all the greatest producers of the era like Ossie Hibbert, Gussie Clarke, Carlton Patterson, Bim Sherman, Leggo, Winston Riley & Linval Thompson (with who he did the combination "Train to Zion"). Other popular albums include "Mr Brown Something" (released by Virgin Records) and "Ravers Party".From the late 70s to the mid-80s, U Brown freelanced on many all the top Jamaican sound systems like Socialist Roots, JackRuby, Black Harmony, Killamanjaro, Sturmars, Jah Love and Sturgav. U Brown moved to the USA in 1986, but returned to Jamaica in 1991, where he moved to the cooler climes of Ocho Rios. He cut several tracks with producer, musician and engineer Barry O'Hare for Barry's Xrated label, including "Pretty Little Girl", "Stand Up Strong", "Conquering Lion" and "Roots & Culture" - combination style with his spiritual brother Prezident Brown. U Brown first hooked up with Rootsman to record some dub plate specials in 1998 and some three years later, he returned to the Third Eye Studio to record two wicked new tracks, "Walk and Talk (Chant to Jah)" and "Pressure", both produced by Rootsman.
