Recorded in late summer 2010, Doncamatic premiered on 5th October 2010 on Zane Lowe's show on Radio 1, and uploaded to Gorillaz' official Youtube immediately afterwards. It had been previously mentioned a short while earlier by Damon in a Q magazine interview, as a new Gorillaz single featuring Daley (but the title was not given). It was immediately promoted after the premiere as Gorillaz' next single. Damon has hinted in interview that the decision to release a new single not off Plastic Beach was partly in response to the lack of radio playlisting for previous songs from that album. At the time of the Radio 1 premiere, Radio 1 indicated uncertainty over the single's title, and in an interview with Damon before the song was played, Damon also kept open the possibility that the song might be called 'All Played Out'. Indeed the initial Youtube upload featured the title 'Doncamatic (All Played Out)' but soon the 'All Played Out' part was dropped, not featuring on official promos, or on the official cover or iTunes listings. Originally it was officially stated that the only B-Side would be a Nero remix of Doncamatic - but later the tracklisting information was changed, as below. The 'Album Mix Tape' included on the iTunes format was previously premiered before Plastic Beach had been released, as a taster for the album, featuring snippets from Plastic Beach mixed together.
