The third single from Plastic Beach, assuming Superfast Jellyfish was the second (see Superfast Jellyfish's page for details on that controversy), and the second to receive a promotional video, after Stylo. On Melancholy Hill was the first single off the album to be sold as anything more than a standalone track, albeit only digitally as an 'iTunes LP' from iTunes stores worldwide. As with the first two singles, a variety of remixes were commissioned by EMI, but only some of these would go on to become official. For all details of these scroll to the foot of the page. On Melancholy Hill did not succeed as a radio single, and only spent two weeks near the bottom of the UK top 100. The release of the tracks as an iTunes LP did little to raise its fortunes. Critically, the track was well received and almost universally praised by reviewers, some singling it out as the best track on the album.

COMMERCIAL FORMATS

The single had no physical release. It was released exclusively on iTunes in all iTunes stores worldwide, in the iTunes LP format. Included in the menus of the iTunes LP was a new drawn picture of the Stylo shark submarine, and a cutaway picture showing its internal structure. Other than that, all the visual components were previously released. The first four tracks listed below are audio only, the final three are video tracks.

Need-to-know background info: The procedure so far in Phase 3 has been that EMI commission more remixes than they know they will actually officially use, then Damon has the final say over what becomes 'official' / approved. When commissioning the remixes, EMI give out the 'remix parts' for the track. These have not leaked. Listed below are all the EMI-commissioned remixes.
