Clint Eastwood (Live - feat. De La Soul and Bootie Brown)
|
Old meets new, a bridge between that band that brought you “Sunshine in a Bag,”
and the one that did “That Windmill Song.” When this was a feature on the Demon
Detour radio tour, it was a kitschy little treat: Listening to a classic with an
updated drum beat and two new emcees. But now, slapped on to the "DARE" single
as a B-Side, it seems like a shameless publicity tap-dance on EMI’s part to draw
a crowd by saying, “Cheggitout! We’re blending the two big singles! What’s not
to like?!” Beyond that, De La Soul’s verse includes a neat little nod to Del,
with the lyric “How I Wish My Brother Del Was Here,” which is appropriate not
only because we, the listener, definitely miss Del who’s verses on the original
Clint Eastwood made him a household name, but because the lyric play on the
title of Del’s debut album “How I Wish My Brother George Was Here.” Bootie’s
verse is just as tinny and whiney as his work on Dirty Harry, so I can’t say
that it works all that well for me. Damon’s voice sounds strained and
unpolished, as it always seems to on live versions of this track. I’ve actually
grown to like that, although the first time I heard it way back in Phase 1, it
was sort of shockingly unpleasant. But again, a neat idea? Yes. Did it need to
be roped into the “DARE” package? No. No, it did not. - Wazawaii |

Lyrics:
Oh...
I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad
I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad
Drums'll fall heavy like anvil weight
I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad
I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad
They say I have no meaning, no purpose
I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad
I ain't happy, I'm feeling glad
The future, it's coming on
