DARE (Dare Refix)
|
Now, if you’d rather make your garage rave a successful one, Paul Van Dyk’s take
on "DARE" should be your choice. With your classic bass kick drum loop, a
repeated sampling of Rosie Wilson’s “Baby,” and a stabbing synth backdrop, this
refix never ventures too far from techno normalcy. This is the same clay they’ve
been spinning in clubs since the days of Studio 54, that one standard electronic
track that seems to survive years and years and years, no matter how much
popular music evolves. Yes, you’ve heard it eighteen thousand times before. Does
that make it bad? No, not really! The source material is catchy enough, and the
basic equation is solid enough that this sugar-sweet track remains exactly what
it should be: fuck. Here, think of it this way: If "DARE" is a nice, clean,
Olympic-sized lap pool; the Refix is the shallow end: Lacking in any sort of
depth or challenge, but perfect for the kids to play Marco Polo in. So get
sucking on a pacifier, tighten your flight goggles, and start popping and
locking: You’ve got a perfect soundtrack for getting your sweat on. - Wazawaii |
