Dracula

Gorillaz finest and truest foray into the sparser reggae sound alone (i.e. discounting the Spacemonkeyz work). It is a shame that this did not make the original running order for the debut album. Some great stoned vocals by Damon, delicious Pablo-style Melodica and excellent production round off a track that in itself makes the Gorillaz project worthwhile - for it let Damon get away with writing a reggae song. The production credit was originally given to 'Dan The Automator and Gorillaz' on the Clint Eastwood single, but this was later corrected to '2D and Curtis Lynch Junior'. This is the sole track produced by Curtis Lynch Junior that the Gorillaz have released, discounting his remix of Slow Country. The sample 'Rest is good for the blood' comes not from a horror film but from an episode of the cartoon Bugs Bunny where Bugs Bunny meets Dracula. It's a great choice, and one which ties in with the undead-theme lyrics (also heard on Hip Albatross and samples on M1 A1).

Versions & availibility(Click links for exact discographical details)

Dracula [4:43] - available only on the US version of the album Gorillaz, also on the non-US versions of G-Sides, and on the non-vinyl versions of the Clint Eastwood single, and the DVD Celebrity Take Down.

Live

Dracula was the only B-side (as it was when the live set was being developed, since this was before the release of the debut album was scheduled in the US, where Dracula would be an album track) to be included in the standard Gorillaz live sets (played at all dates on the Phase One tours). The video that played on the screen during the performance featured a giant robotic gorilla walking towards the camera.

Lyrics:

"I am a vampire"

"Rest is good for the blood"

Percentage of us tow the line
The rest of us is out of reach
Everybody partytime
Some of us will never sleep again

Dracula
Dracula dracula
Dracula dracula

Percentage of us tow the line
The rest of us out of reach
Everybody partytime
Some of us will never sleep again

Dracula
Dracula dracula
Dracula dracula
