Stylo was the first single released from Plastic Beach. The intended release date was the week beginning 25th January 2010, but promotional CDs were sent out from the start of the previous week, and the single was leaked to the web on 20th January. The release was then accelerated, receiving a play on NME radio on the 22nd and through other radio stations before the end of the week, with the download becoming officially legally available through all outlets 25th January in the UK, 26th January in the US, etc for other countries. Later, a remixes promo CD was issued. Several producers / remixers were provided with the remix parts for the single. Only some would go on become 'official' (i.e. approved by Damon) and feature on the remixes promo CD, Gorillaz' Youtube and (in one case) the On Melancholy Hill iTunes LP. The single was the first Gorillaz single proper not to receive a commercial physical release. In the music press (e.g. Music Week) a release date of 1st March was circulated for a full single release, but no physical format was forthcoming. The single was not playlisted by any major radio stations although it did receive some fairly substantial play on alternative stations such as 6Music, NME radio, XFM, Q radio, etc. The single was a failure in the charts and did not chart in the top 100 in the UK at any point, managing only to chart briefly at #24 in the US Billboard Alternative Songs chart There were several fake / unofficial vinyls issued for this release that had nothing to do with Gorillaz, including an 6-track clear vinyl and an 11-track vinyl (these compiled various remixes including the unofficial unconnected-to-Gorillaz Tenkah remix. Need-to-know background info: The procedure so far in Phase 3 has been that EMI commission more remixes than they know they will actually officially use, then Damon has the final say over what becomes 'official' / approved. When commissioning the remixes, EMI give out the 'remix parts' for the track. These have not leaked. Listed below are all the EMI-commissioned remixes.

Notes: The version on the released album is mixed into other tracks, but in other respects appears to be the full version. A part of the remix was played on Pete Tong's radio show before the release of the album.
Also note for Stylo Remixes:-
- DJ Steve Angello tweeted that he was doing a Gorillaz remix at the same time as Alex Metric and Yuksek tweeted about doing one, but it never came out. But it presumably exists.
- the Tenkah Remix, despite being widely circulated, is almost certainly completely unofficial and does not use official remix parts.
- Mixmag claimed the Beastie Boys were remixing Stylo, but this may have been a joke or false rumour, as nothing more was said about it.
